sunshine and bike rides

Saturday

Yesterday was a gorgeous day. I would take this kind of weather all the time. Hammer, can we live somewhere where the temps stay in the 70s consistently, please?

The sunshine just makes me so happy. It made me want to get outside as soon as I was up and awake. Marley let me get some coffee in me before we started our day, thankfully. I was a tired girl yesterday morning and slept till 9! That never happens.

Marley and I went on a longer walk and soaked up the sun, the sweet breeze by the river, and she really enjoyed the scents. 😉

Afterwards we got to work! I cleaned and vacuumed the inside of my car. I brought the houseplants out for some sun. Opened all the windows and blinds in the house to freshen it up a bit. Then I cleaned everything in the kitchen: counters, stove, fridge, dishes, floors, it was spotless and it felt so good.

Then snack time was upon us. Since I was biking with Kate in the afternoon I had a simple meal. Udi’s Cinnamon Raisin toast with Sunbutter and Jelly plus a banana.

This hit the spot! While digesting Marley convinced me it was also nap time! We laid in bed and watched a bit of the live Ironman Kona coverage.

And although it’s nothing like Kona, I packed up my bike and gear and headed to Kate’s for an afternoon ride.

21 miles in 1 hour 35 minutes. We averaged 13.2 mph and burned 975 calories. I wish I could get my Garmin to synch, but it’s acting goofy. I wanted to see our elevation gain. Because like I mentioned earlier in the week, Kate lives in a hilly area. Our first ten miles involved many climbs. I really tested Kate’s leg on this ride since it was only her third time out on her bike, but she kicked ass!

And of course, once I was home, Hammer and I had a dinner feast. We used up all the veggies in the fridge, the last of the tilapia, butternut squash, and even threw in a sample bag of jasmine rice from a race expo.

This meal is perfect fuel for Hammer’s cyclocross race this morning. We’re heading there shortly and then I need to lace up for my long run this afternoon. See you all later. Enjoy the sun!

bike into the sunset + a birthday

Tuesday

Wow, yesterday was busy! And that might even be an understatement! Us Project Managers know how to get work done, but sometimes it’s just not easy. Thankfully the sun was shining yesterday afternoon so I hurried my butt out of the office so the Hammer and I could get in a bike ride before the sun set.

We were able to ride for 45 minutes. I think we covered about 12 miles and kept about a 16 mph pace. Not bad for just riding on the canal path. It was a bit chilly, but felt so nice to get out there. Oh how I love my ride!

And then for dinner we had the last of our pork chops, butternut squash, and some green beans.

Today

This morning I woke up well before I’d like to, 5:30am, and got ready to run. Kate and I met up and ran a leisurely ~3.5 miles around town before the sunrise! It was nice to get out there and get the blood flowing before 7am. It was very dark and chilly this morning, but you can’t take me out of shorts just yet. I’m not ready for the cold weather! 😦

Lucky for me, we have a birthday to celebrate in my office, so in honor of Melissa’s special day there were bagels, donut holes, and cupcakes to choose from this morning! I snagged a cranberry walnut bagel. This was exactly what I needed after back to back workouts last night and this morning. It saved me from eating my arm off!

Happy birthday Melissa!

Thanks for being a partner in crime, helping to keep hoodlums in line with me, and keeping me laughing along the way! Enjoy your day!

p.s. I went to the dentist at lunch time and am happy to report NO CAVITIES, mom!!

Just what the Dr. ordered…

Today was one of those days.  I was dragging. I didn’t want to get out of bed this morning.

I did bike to work though and that was great!

By 2pm I was ready for a nap. And by 3:30 I had quite the headache. I don’t know what was up… I was beyond thirsty, hungry, but I didn’t know for what, and just plain done.  On the bike ride home I reminded myself that working out would be the best thing for me.

And that we did! Tonight we had class at Fore Performance.  At first it was tough to shake off my tired mood and bad headache, but once we really got moving I started to feel better.

Tonights weight portion looked like this: INTENSE!

1. Squats and single-arm medicine ball push ups

2. Chin ups and 4-way back exercises

3. Single leg squats w/dumb bells and banded clam shells

4. Single-arm dumb bell rows and jungle gym scap retractions

Here we all are in action…  enjoy!

Headache is gone!  I feel so much better after working out… it’s just what the Dr. ordered.

Anddddd, I’m going to be sore tomorrow!

p.s. we missed you Kate!

Get on your bikes and ride!

Happy hump day!  We made it through…. only 2 mores days! It’s been a long one, though.

Kate and I were out running by 6:30 this morning. A 3 mile loop on the riverway trail. The speed run wasn’t happening when I rolled out of bed SUPER sore.  Thanks Josh!

Overall: 3 miles in 27:50 (9:17/mi avg)

1 – 9:39

2 – 9:11

3 – 8:59

It.was.gorgeous.  The sun was shining. Perfect temperature to run. The water was gushing over the dam.  So pretty! Makes me remember why I like running in the mornings.

And instead of driving to work today, I opted for my bike!  Isn’t she pretty?!

 ::swoon::

I’m only a mile away from the office, so my ride is short and sweet.  Easy ride too, the traffic isn’t bad.  I went to and from work, plus home and back at lunch time. 4 more miles. Felt so good!

I may never want to drive to work again…Â
